Now or Later....??????

Hi

We are coming to Vegas 09 do we book now or later....do prices vary dramatically in a year. We are travelling July/Aug/maybe Sept so we have no real prices to compare to and many places don%26#39;t do reservations more than 11 months out...Is it NOW or do we wait for a deal?

Seeing as you%26#39;re flexible I wouldn%26#39;t lock in the dates yet. Las Vegas is different than most tourist destinations in that there is no ';season';. The rates for one week in August might be twice as high as the next week, due to conventions, events, etc. So for this reason I would wait untill I had a better idea about hotel rates.

Of course, seeing as airfare is a major part of your cost you might have to jump if a bargain presents itself.

If you call hotels direct they may be able to help. When you book direct and the price goes down you can then call them and request the lower rate.

Most important is to do flights seperate and book direct with the hotel. If you want a direct flight you can%26#39;t get one from here currenly on Wednesdays.

Think of maybe 2 hotels you would like to stay at book the cheaper one and regularly check the other if the price goes way down book it. You only have to cancel 24hrs ahead of time with some hotels in order to get your deposit back. Of course, make sure you read the cancellation policy I would hate to steer you wrong I can only go by my own reservations in the past with TI and Paris.

I mention the Wednesday flight thing because if you are going for a long trip, you may want to do it from a Monday or mid-week as hotel rooms are more expensive on the weekends.

I would always choose to go now, a little later, later, and a lot later---the MORE trips to VEGAS the BETTER!!!!

Help with pricing on Prime or Delmonico

Does anyone know what the price would be for maybe 2 cocktails, entree and dessert? Entrees we would both order steak either rib eye or porterhouse? I don%26#39;t see pricing on their menus and just am wondering if anyone knows about where that would put us. Of course i know there%26#39;s tip too not looking for that included just a rough estimate on the food and drinks i mentioned...

if you want to know prices and they%26#39;re not online call and ask them to fax you a menu, or ask the concierge at your hotel, most have copies of the popular restaurants, and if they don;t they%26#39;ll call

We ate at Delmonicos last year. 2 wine, 2 cocktails,2 appetizers, 2 steaks with the trimmings, 2 desserts.....with tip, about 200.00. This place is highly over rated. If your blood pressure is low, then maybe you can handle all the salt that they poured over everything. We will be back in Vegas for another vacation in November, and I can guarentee you, that we will not be going back to Delmonicos!! There are plently of other steak hoouses in Vegas. Give this one a pass.

I called and requested a Prime menu emailed to me, it took 48 hours, but I got one with prices.

Dalesters salty, distasteful experience at Delmonico is why one should disregard the extremes, when choosing a place to eat based on TA reviews...

One heavy-handed line chef certainly can spoil one%26#39;s meal...be it with too much salt, or maybe you%26#39;ll get what is called a ';pepper monkey'; on your Caesar salad (five too many twists of the mill).We simply had them redo it, while drinking our ';on-the-house'; flutes of Champagne...';pepper monkey'; didn%26#39;t show up again.

Mrs. Z and I have eaten at the NOLA Delmonico AND the Vegas branch, with superb meals at both...BTW, I recall that steaks are charred, but not pre-rubbed or salted, unless requested...wife just told me same with Artic Char she had...she had a lomen-dill aioli on the side...boy, am I getting hungry!..........z

Prime is better than Delmonicos by a mile.

Sorry the other poster found Delmonicos to be way too much salt, I have never experienced that at all.

I eat there often along with Prime, while I do find Prime to be better I find no problem with Delmonicos. My meals run about $150 to $175, we are not desert eaters and usually we will have only a glass of wine or cocktails not both.

So let%26#39;s hear it from people who have actually eaten there....

Hi, we are going to Vegas next month with another couple. We both live in a small town, so don%26#39;t have much for dining here. I don%26#39;t want to spend an outrageous amount...but would like a nice atmosphere and good food. We are staying at Harrah%26#39;s. Suggestions?

There is more to Vegas than just eating at Harrah%26#39;s properties. However, some of those mentioned are good. Nero%26#39;s is very good, but you can eat in places like that most anywhere, it isn%26#39;t special.

Olives at Bellagio is excellent and by Vegas standards does not break the bank! It is an extremely popular restaurant. For casual, Margaritaville can be fun as well. I know it is a chain, but since you are in a small town, I think you%26#39;d really like one of these......Grand Lux in either Venetian or Palazzo or Cheesecake Factory in the Forum Shops at Caesars. All are owned by the same company, good food with a varied menu, large portions, good service.

Maggianos in Fashion Show Mall is another good option for you, good Italian food, nice surroundings.

The places I named are not expensive, but all have good food and are very nice. Of the ones mentioned, Olives would be the most expensive of the lot.

Traders Vic - Planet Hollywood, great for drinks and people watching

We%26#39;ve sort of found 9as a very general rule) that the cost aspect of the restuarants has a direct relation to the price of the hotel they reside in. If you took the top 20% of the hotels by room price the restaurants in them would also be in the top 20%. It is the next layer down that seems to have the best value...price for quality....and is less outrageous.

The better values too tend to be in the associated shopping malls attached to some hotels such as The Fourm Shops at Caesars and The Canal Shops at the Venetian.

Definitely agree with The Range as a steak option. Also Canaletto in The Venitian Canal Shops. Mon Ami Gabi (to us) had better food than the pricier Les Artistes, both at Paris. There are some good values downtown as well (Pullman Grille, Binion%26#39;s Ranch, Roberta%26#39;s) and for casual the 777 Brewpub at Main Street Station is good.

An off-strip hidden gem (value wise) is the off-menu Steak Special...complete steak dinner for $6.99 and good brewed on-site beers...at Ellis Island. You have to ask for the steak special.

Hotel???

Hi everyone! I need some advice...we are planning to get married in Vegas sept09 and we are having a hard time deciding on a hotel. We will need a place that will ';tolerate'; kids.(ages 6,12,14,16). We were thinking of MGM because of pools. Any suggestions???? Thanks in advance.

Chicago Brewing Co. in the Four Queens

Wifey and I were winding down another fantastic long weekend over Labor Day in Sin City with a minor pub crawl on August 30. We started at the Dome sports bar with the great view of FSE at the Plaza Hotel with $2 Bud Lights and the Diamondbacks playing on the big screen TV. The D-Backs collapse continued and we lost interest so we headed to the bar in the Vegas Club for $2 Coronas. My they tasted sweet and the D-backs continued to stink it up so we headed to down to the Fremont where they also had $2 Coronas. Wifey played VP and the bartender liked her Mets T-shirt so he comped her cold ones. We started to feel hungry so we checked out Tony Roma’s and the place was pack. They were lined up outside the place. We decided to go to the 4 Queens and see if we could get into the Chicago Brewing Company for beer and pizza. The place was empty on a crowded Labor Day Weekend. Wow did we luck out.

So we order a couple of frosty ones and a pizza. We were looking forward to a fine handcrafted beer and at the first sip we almost chocked. The Brew knucklehead who put together this batch of beer had put way to much hops in the beer and it was almost undrinkable.

I heard the waitress down the bar telling another disappointed patron that she had no control over the quality of the beer. Oh well no use in complaining I guess and we were looking forward to tearing into the pizza. Well it was pizza technically but the ingredients tasted like they had just come out of a can or a jar. Yuck. I must say we suffered no ill effects from consuming the slop but buyers beware at the Chicago Brewing Company in the Four Queens Casino and Hotel. We are sticking to the 777 Brewery at the Main Street Station for beer and munchies.

I think that you just must have been there on a really bad day. I had a wheat beer and a slice in March and I thought it was very very good. Although I do prefer Blue Moon if I%26#39;m going to drink that kind of beer.

That serves you right for not going around the corner to the Main Street Station and quaffing their beer in the Triple 7 Brewpub. I would have bought you a pint!

Last year I took my guy to LV and we made a stop at Chicago Brewing. He is a total microbrew snob and loves super hoppy IPAs and the like. He was very happy with the offerings at Chicago Brewing.

Perhaps you had a bad batch. Perhaps they poured the from the wrong handle and you got a glass of something you weren%26#39;t expecting. Perhaps it just wasn%26#39;t your cup of tea (beer). *shrug* To each their own. I just know we had a plesant experience there and wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to go back.

On future trips to LV, if you want something other than p*ss-water Buds and Coronas, do yourself a favor and check out one of the several Big Dog brewhouses. They%26#39;re out in the suburbs of Vegas but well worth the cab rides to get some great Las Vegas microbrew that you can%26#39;t get anywhere else. I wish they bottled so I could get some shipped to Seattle, but they don%26#39;t. 777 at Main Street Station is also good.

Well, if you are happy sucking down Coronas and Bud Light, it is no surprise you were unhappy with Chicago Brewing Company...the beers there have taste!

The stout there is one of the better ones I have had anywhere. I sampled over 35 porters/stouts a few summers ago.

But then again, maybe I should cut you some slack. I didn%26#39;t have any hoppy beers there so I can%26#39;t really judge.

Hops are not for everyone. I had that Hoppy IPA and liked it but then again I brew my own. Maybe you should have tried a sample first.

We like the pizza and brew there. One of our fav places. Only legit gripe we have about the place is that it%26#39;s in a small space.

777 is better for large groups or families.

Don%26#39;t forget the Triple George down by Hogs n Heifers

While the Chicago Brewing Co. is no Triple 7 Brewpub, my husband loves the porter called Blackstar. On our last trip, the four of us had pitchers of the Allnighter and my Budlight-loving brother-in-law did not complain and it was fine as a light beer. We did not try their IPA which is usually pretty bitter to me anyway. The hefeweizen (sp) was funky tasting during one of our visits a while ago, but the waitress had explained that this was a new batch and may not taste right. We do not brew our own beer so this may be a more comprehensive answer to those who do. Sorry your experience was not positive. This place is small, but comfy and we have relaxed there while catching a ballgame.....nice big comfortable chairs and couch and good service.

I have to say this is my fav place downtown, the wheat beer is great, and the garlic butter knots and filet sliders are foods I think about when I am hungry! Never tried the pizza though, always stuffed after apps!

Is the CBC smokey? Is it glassed off from the casino? I will be downtown Xmas week and thought about trying it. I enjoyed the one in Laughlin.

Cool, Hip Japanese Resto / Lounge for 30 Somethings???

Can anyone recommend a cool, hip, happening place for Japanese food? Something similar to Morimoto in New York City would be awesome.

You might look at Nobu in the Hard Rock - after all Nobu Matsuhisa is the guy who took a chance on Morimoto years ago.

Two suggestions:

Social House at TI. Check out their website. It%26#39;s hard to describe. Almost like the Japanese equivalent of Tapas with amazing flavors and dishes.

Okada at Wynn. A fantastic setting with an equally diverse menu.

Both will probably set you back some cash, but if you%26#39;re comparing to Morimoto, then you%26#39;re not looking for a bargain.

Yellowtail is the new sushi restaurant at Bellagio. It%26#39;s owned by the Lightgroup (known for restaurants and nightclubs in Vegas.) The chef is Akira Back, who worked with Morimoto in the past. The sushi and sake there are great, the decor is nice, and you can get a view of the fountains if you are lucky.

I agree with the suggestion for Social House at TI. We love their food, drinks and atmosphere. Very hip vibe and the food has always been consistently great.

Golf - Las Vegas National

Glen, relative to the myriad of other Vegas courses it is a bottom tier facility. If you want to get a taste of ';Vegas golf'; then you are advised to try one of many other better representatives depending on your budget. Keep in mind, many courses close in Vegas late September and October for overseeding and Vegas golf is not ever ';cheap'; not even in August.
