Has anyone been to Area 51? I think it sounds interesting but at the same time I%26#39;m not sure there%26#39;s much to see. Would you recommend going?
Area 51
I have been up to Groom Lake twice. Other than a the Alien Cafe there is not much to see. You can%26#39;t get onto the property at all. I would not go if I were you. After all, you must see enough aliens in Chicago. Just kidding.....my wife is from Chicago.
Area 51
I%26#39;ve been there and I say there is a lot to see! Cactus, sagebrush, dirt, rangeland cattle, more cactus . . . you get the idea. The Little Ale%26#39;Inn is kind of fun for a few minutes - mostly because we%26#39;ve all seen it on UFO specials on TV. But no, overall, there is nothing there to ';see';.
Except of course, all those *mysterious* lights at night . . . whoooo-ooo ;-)
I used to be pretty cynical about ufos until I was driving back from the LV airport one morning at about 3:00 am. I was just north of Searchlight and pulled my car over because of what I saw making abrupt flight changes not more than 200 yards from hwy 95. If it was one of ours, then we should certainly be able to find Bin Laden. It was totally silent, but I could make out its form and what I would guess to be it%26#39;s approximate size. I stood outside the car for 15 minutes and watched it dart around. It then was gone. I%26#39;m not so cynical any more!
You can stay at Mandalay and watch the unmarked jets that ferry workers to Groom Lake take off and land.
How far from Laughlin is Area 51.
It is about 250 miles from Laughlin.
Its a waste of time and GAS driving there and the Ale in An INN is a mobile home filled with junky touristy crap.
I like to drive a lot and it was probably the worst choice of a ';destination'; drive EVER. Driving Death Valley, Old Route 66 and pretty much any other non-freeway out in the middle of nowhere drive in southern Nevada or western AZ is more interesting.
Well, you didn%26#39;t leave anybody wondering what your *opinion* is, did you Steve_Bozell?
LOL, it is just that. Your opinion.
We drove from LV to Tonopah via Rachel. No, the actual building is not a ';mobile home';. We had lunch there and had a reasonably good hamburger with very friendly service. Yes, they have a bunch of tourist trinkets, no question of that. We bought an ';Area 51'; cap, a mug and a pin. Okay, so we were ';tourists';. So what, lol?
Along the way we spied some interesting looking buildings on the hillside toward area 51, some rangeland cattle (we had to stop for a couple who were sauntering across the highway), a huge farm near Rachel with acres of green, and even saw some mustangs. The Pahranagat lakes and wildlife refuge were fascinating to drive by - a natural ';oasis'; in the desert.
I guess it%26#39;s all in the eye of the beholder, eh?
And is it less interesting than any other long empty road across the Nevada desert? *Shrug*, who%26#39;s to judge?
';saw some rangeland cattle (we had to stop for a couple who were sauntering across the highway), a huge farm';
WOW, I did not realize you could see such unique and interesting things during that 2 hour adventure to the mobile home community on the side of the road.
I take everything back.
Steve is like a ninja of inaccuracies.
