Poker site cheating plot
Link to entire story above:
Allegations that cheaters manipulated the software powering a leading Internet poker site so they could see their opponents%26#39; hole cards have triggered a $75 million claim against a Canadian company, msnbc.com has learned.
The alleged subterfuge on UltimateBet.com — one of the 10 top poker sites — is the biggest known case of fraud targeting an Internet gambling site and its customers, according to the company that owns the site. It is similar to a case of cheating that occurred last year on UltimateBet’s sister site, AbsolutePoker.com, but this time the thieves ran the scheme for far longer — at least from January 2005 to January 2008, it said.
Word of the $75 million U.S. claim ($80 million Canadian) — the first indication of the scope of the alleged cheating — emerged this week when msnbc.com contacted a court-appointed liquidator overseeing the voluntary dismemberment of Excapsa Software Inc. of Toronto, which formerly owned and licensed the poker software to UltimateBet and other gambling sites. The claim was filed by Blast-Off Ltd. of Malta, a private company that currently has an ownership interest in Ultimate Bet.
Poker site cheating plot
I%26#39;m not surprised. I%26#39;ve played online and people made plays against me that were just too unbelievable.
this isn%26#39;t new news - the poker forums have been buzzing with it all year.
the cheating mentioned above is just one example - and a high-tech one.
i know on many sites all the players except 1 or 2 at a table are all in the same room or using cell phones to share info - and split the take won from the other players. this isn%26#39;t new and won%26#39;t stop.
I play a lot of poker but online I only play online for play chips. I have never trusted these sites. I know thousands play online for money but I just don%26#39;t trust them. Thats why I love the cards in your hands and avoid places like the Excalibur too which has the electronic tables. Just don%26#39;t trust them. To me its not real poker without dealers, cards and chips but each to his own.
I agree DB...
Anyone ever play at PokerStars??? I have always wondered myself, and after the whole AbsolutePoker scam that happened and now this?? Bad players are everywhere and bad beats happen, but not hand after hand after hand! Really makes me think about not playing there anymore.
I play at pokerstars, and i have never been suspicious of cheaters, but i do it for fun and not really expecting to win big (its just not the same playing with fake $$ for me). I also only play the $.25/$.10 games.
jdsinger I have played there and at fulltilt and party poker but never for money.... I save the money playing for Vegas or the casinos up here in Canada which now most have poker rooms. I just finished reading about the Excalibur machines having a hiccup in the middle of a hand. Can you imagine sitting with a wining hand and that happening?? It can happen online. who would you complain to?? To me thats not real poker like I said. Part of the lure and thrill of poker is face to face with real cards.
Shocking!
If you are playing ANY game on ANY website for real money you are not very smart. Slot machine players think Internet game players are wasting their time and money and will always lose.
';Slot machine players think internet game players are wasting their time and money and will always lose.';
That%26#39;s funny, because there are many who believe that slot machine players are the ones who are wasting their time and money and will always lose.
And they can point to the success of the gaming corporations as proof.
