I%26#39;ll be flying into Sacramento and renting a car to drive to north Tahoe/Incline Village in late October. Am wondering about road conditions at that time of year. Will I have to worry about ice or snow on the road, or needing chains, etc.?? Is there anything to be concerned about? I will be driving at night. Any thoughts, tips, etc. are appreciated.
Driving to Tahoe from Sacramento in October
You will be fine in all liklihood. It would be a rare occurance for it to snow in amounts that would require you to use chains. Remember it isn%26#39;t the fact that it might be snowing, it depends on the quantity and temperature. If the snow does not stick, then it can%26#39;t accumulate in amounts that would affect traction.
Last Ocotber there was a day in mid-October when it snowed enough to require chains for a short time but then it cleared up and the restrictions were lifted and the snow at thh lower elevations melted.
The best you can do is keep an eye on the weather forecast. Chain requirements, when enforced are intermittent not continuous over the season.
